K. Denise Rucker Krepp Receive Military and Veterans Law Pro Bono Award
The Virginia State Bar Military and Veterans Law Section recognizes K. Denise Rucker Krepp as the recipient of the 2026 Military and Veterans Law Pro Bono Award. The award honors a member of the Virginia State Bar who “diligently protects those who protect and serve to protect our nation.”
An Army brat, Coast Guard veteran, and Navy civilian, Rucker Krepp has dedicated her career to public service and advocacy. She is a graduate of The George Washington University, the University of Miami School of Law, and the Naval War College. Throughout her distinguished career, she has served as a Transportation Security Administration attorney, Senior Counsel to the House Homeland Security Committee, and Chief Counsel for the Maritime Administration. Her service has also extended beyond government through leadership roles as an elected representative, Girl Scout troop leader, lobbyist, trustee of the National Maritime Historical Society, and D.C. Ambassador for the Military Women’s Memorial.
Rucker Krepp is recognized for her extensive pro bono advocacy on behalf of survivors of sexual assault, particularly within the military community. Through her volunteer efforts, she has worked to raise awareness, promote accountability, and support survivors seeking justice. In addition to her writing and advocacy, Rucker Krepp advises members of Congress and the Department of Homeland Security Office of Inspector General on issues related to sexual assault in the Coast Guard. She has also shared her expertise internationally through presentations sponsored by Justice Pamoja in Kenya and the Organization of American States.
Alongside her many other public service roles, Rucker Krepp serves as the elected Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner for Single Member District 6B10 in Washington, D.C. In that capacity, she represents residents on matters involving transportation, public safety, development, and other community concerns, ensuring their voices are heard throughout the decision-making process.
