VSB Executive Director Takes Military Leave of Absence
Virginia State Bar (VSB) Executive Director Cameron M. Rountree has temporarily stepped down from his position to take a military leave of absence.
Rountree has been a part of the United States Navy for 24 years and has been a Naval Reserve Captain for 19 years. His expected return to his position will be in March 2027.
During his leave of absence, Deputy Executive Director Janet P. Van Cuyk is filling in as Acting Executive Director, and Director of Regulatory Compliance DaVida M. Davis is filling in as Acting Deputy Executive Director in Van Cuyk’s stead.
Van Cuyk has served as Deputy Executive Director since January 2023, providing strategic and operational leadership across the VSB’s core administrative divisions (Access to Legal Services, Bar Programs and Engagement, Ethics, and the Clerk’s Office), key programs (the Clients’ Protection Fund and Fee Dispute Resolution), and critical agency-wide functions (e.g., VFOIA compliance, contract management, and strategic planning).
Davis joined the Virginia State Bar in 2017 as Clerk of the Disciplinary System, where she worked closely with the Disciplinary Board, Bar Counsel, and other stakeholders. While in the Clerk’s Office, she oversaw the department’s transition to a paperless environment and developed and implemented processes during the COVID-19 pandemic that allowed disciplinary hearings to continue virtually. In 2022, she transitioned to the role of Director of Regulatory Compliance, overseeing both Membership and Mandatory Continuing Legal Education (MCLE).
Any questions regarding Van Cuyk or Davis’s temporary roles can be addressed to them via their VSB emails: [email protected] or [email protected].
