Volunteers Sought for 2026 VSB Board Vacancies
Volunteers are needed to serve on Virginia State Bar (VSB) boards and special appointments. All appointments will be for the terms specified, beginning on July 1, 2026. Lawyers must be active members, in good standing.
Where are the vacancies?
The list below identifies anticipated vacancies. All terms begin July 1, 2026.
Council-Member-at-Large: 3 member vacancies; however, 1 member is eligible for reappointment
- There are nine at-large members of the 83-member Council
- Appointments are made by the Supreme Court of Virginia.
- Council members may serve two consecutive three-year terms.
- Lawyers who are interested in serving should submit a letter of interest and a resume to: Nominating Committee, at [email protected] by December 8, 2025.
Mandatory Continuing Legal Education Board: 4 lawyer vacancies; however, 3 lawyer members are eligible for reappointment
- The MCLE board is composed of twelve lawyers who serve three-year terms, with two consecutive terms allowed.
- Appointments are made by the Supreme Court of Virginia.
- Lawyers who are interested in serving should submit a letter of interest and a resume to: Nominating Committee, at [email protected] by December 8, 2025.
Clients’ Protection Fund Board: 4 lawyer vacancies; however, 3 lawyer members are eligible for reappointment
- The CPF Board is composed of 14 members (13 lawyers, 1 lay member) who serve three-year terms, with two consecutive terms allowed.
- Appointments are made by the VSB Council.
- Lawyers who are interested in serving should submit a letter of interest and a resume to: Nominating Committee, at [email protected] by December 8, 2025.
Medical Malpractice Review Panels:
Multiple lawyer vacancies
- To serve on MMRPs, a lawyer must be (i) impartial, (ii) an active, in good standing member of the VSB, and (iii) actively practicing.
- Members will serve a three-year term beginning immediately or on July 1, 2026. Terms are staggered with one-third of the members rotating off each year.
- Panel appointments are made by the Supreme Court of Virginia.
- Further information on the MMRP process may be found at Va. Code § 8.01-581.3. The Medical Malpractice Rules of Practice can be found in Va. Code, Volume 11.
- Lawyers who are interested in serving should submit a letter of interest and a resume to: Cameron Rountree, Executive Director, at [email protected]. Applications may be submitted at any time.
ABA House of Delegates: 1 lawyer vacancy; however 1 lawyer member is eligible for reappointment
- ABA House of Delegates terms are for two years, with three consecutive terms allowed.
- Appointments are made by the VSB Council.
- Lawyers who are interested in serving should submit a letter of interest and a resume to: Nominating Committee, at [email protected] by December 8, 2025.
What is the application process?
The VSB Nominating Committee will review applications and make recommendations to the VSB Executive Committee and Council for consideration in January, 2026. The Council will make recommendations for the MCLE Board and Council at Large Members to the Supreme Court in February, 2026.
