The Mandatory Continuing Legal Education Board administers the program that was established by the Supreme Court of Virginia. The rules governing the MCLE program require all active members of the Virginia State Bar to complete a minimum of 12 hours of approved continuing legal education courses, including two hours of ethics or professionalism and four hours from live, interactive programs each fiscal year.
The MCLE board is composed of twelve lawyers. Volunteers are solicited beginning in late November in Virginia Lawyer magazine, in emails, and online; applications are due in early January. Applicants send a brief résumé and a short statement of interest to [email protected]. All members serve three-year terms, with two consecutive terms allowed.
Upcoming meetings may be found on the Calendar, and are subject to the Virginia Freedom of Information Act. Agendas and call-in numbers will be provided on the meeting entry on the Calendar.
