Consumer Data Privacy in the Commonwealth Panel Discussion

This public event, hosted by the Virginia State Bar’s Antitrust and Consumer Protection Section, convenes leading experts to examine the landscape of privacy law and enforcement in the Commonwealth, including the Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act (VCDPA) that took effect in 2023. This panel will explore a variety of questions specific to privacy, including:

  • What lessons have been learned from VCDPA enforcement to date?

  • Given the strong role of states in technology policy matters, what are the opportunities and challenges for coordination between federal and state regulators?

  • What are the opportunities and challenges for coordination between state regulators from different jurisdictions?

  • How can regulators strike a balance between consumer protection and promoting innovation?

  • What lessons from privacy regulation are instructive when considering AI regulation?
