The Virginia State Bar Council approved revised amendments to the bylaws at its meeting on June 15, 2023. The revised bylaws have been published on the website under Rules and Regulations.


April 28, 2023

The Virginia State Bar seeks public comment on proposed amendments to the bylaws of the Virginia State Bar and the Virginia State Bar Council.
The proposed amendments:
Limit the power of the VSB President to create a subcommittee of the Executive Committee,
Eliminate the power of the Executive Committee to employ VSB staff and set their compensation, and to review the performance of the deputy executive director and bar counsel,
Prescribe a process for the Executive Committee to review the performance of the executive director on a biennial basis.

Inspection and Comment
The proposed amendments may be inspected below or at the office of the Virginia State Bar, 1111 East Main Street, Suite 700, Richmond, Virginia 23219-0060, between the hours of 9:00 am and 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday.

Any individual, business, or other entity may submit written comments in support of or in opposition to the proposed opinion to Cameron Rountree, executive director of the Virginia State Bar, not later than May 29, 2023. Comments may be submitted via email to [email protected]
