Virginia Law Foundation Awards $714,000 in 2024 Grants to Law-Related Projects
Powered by the generosity of Virginia's lawyers and legal community, the Virginia Law Foundation (VLF) awarded $714,199.77 to 35 organizations across the state. Reviewed and selected by the VLF’s Grants Committee, these annual grants support a variety of law-related projects that will benefit thousands of Virginians. The VSB Diversity Conference received a $15,000 grant for the Oliver Hill/Samuel Tucker Pre-Law Institute and the Virginia Judges and Lawyers Assistance Program received $20,000.
“Equal access to justice lies at the heart of the Virginia Law Foundation’s mission,” said David Gogal of Blankingship & Keith, PC, chair of the VLF’s Grants Committee. “The three prongs of our mission aim to promote pro bono and affordable legal services, the Rule of Law, which ensures that all are equal before the law, and the advancement of law-related education to teach our rights and responsibilities as Virginia citizens. It is through this mission and our philanthropy that we strive to preserve access to justice and the Rule of Law for generations to come.”
Since the establishment of its grants program in 1984, the VLF has awarded more than $29.4 million to dozens of initiatives and nonprofits across Virginia that align with its mission. In the last decade, the VLF has funded signature grants, including the Supreme Court of Virginia’s Judicial Learning Center. This year’s grant recipients include a range of projects that provide essential legal aid, public service internships for law students, civic education programs, and other important causes and programs.
In 2024, the VLF is celebrating its 50th anniversary, marking this year with the theme, “Justice Resounding,” underscoring a commitment to significantly increasing access to justice. The justice gap remains a deep concern to the legal community, and the VLF’s grants program continues to work toward addressing this problem.
To honor and award this year’s grants, the Virginia Law Foundation will host its Grants Luncheon on August 22 at the Virginia Holocaust Museum in Richmond.
