Highlights of the May 30 VSB Council Meeting

View of the VSB Council meeting on May 30, 2024.At its meeting on May 30, 2024, in Virginia Beach, the Virginia State Bar Council heard the following significant reports and took the following actions.

Disciplinary District Committee Appointments

Council unanimously approved the slate of volunteer candidates to fill vacancies for the 2024–2025 term on the Disciplinary District Committees. A tie-breaker vote was held for District 3 — Section III between Adam E. Strauchler and Emilee Manzi Hasbrouck, in which Council elected Adam E. Strauchler.

2024–25 VSB President Installation

The 2024 Virginia State Bar Annual Meeting took place May 29–June 1, and the 2024–25 VSB president was inducted. Michael M. York was sworn into office and will take over the presidency of the VSB on July 1, 2024. He has served on VSB Council and Executive Committee, as chair of the Legal Ethics Committee, on the Judicial Candidate Evaluation Committee, and on the Budget and Finance Committee. Prior to becoming an attorney, York was a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and investigative reporter who covered federal courts for The Washington Post. K. Brett Marston, managing partner of Gentry Locke Attorneys in Roanoke, was also sworn in as president-elect for 2024–25 and will take over the presidency of the VSB on July 1, 2025.
