Bernard Joseph DiMuro, 1954–2024

The Virginia State Bar mourns the loss of Bernard Joseph DiMuro, the 2002–2003 president of the VSB, who died on March 8, 2024, at the age of 70.

After receiving his law degree from George Washington University in 1979, DiMuro launched a successful career in civil litigation, both in federal and state courts, representing corporations and individuals in areas including, but not limited to, corporate and employment law, personal injury, business torts, and securities fraud. He also became an expert and a frequent lecturer in business and employment litigation and business and professional ethics. At the time of his passing, DiMuro had been the managing partner of the Alexandria law firm DiMuroGinsberg, P.C. for over 30 years.

DiMuro was a prolific volunteer with the VSB. In addition to his presidency, DiMuro served as a member of the VSB Council and Executive Committee, chair of the Disciplinary Board, chair of the Eighth District Grievance Committee, chair of the Committee on Advertising and Solicitation, vice-chair of the Committee on Budget and Finance, vice-chair of the Task Force on Admission of Corporate Counsel, and faculty member for the Professionalism Course. Furthermore, he was co-chair of the Advertising Task Force, chair of the Task Force on Public Access to Disciplinary System, a member of the Appellate Rules Advisory Committee, and member of the Virginia Model Rules of Professional Conduct Committee.

Outside of the VSB, DiMuro was recognized by numerous organizations for his legal expertise and was a Fellow of the Virginia Law Foundation, Litigation Counsel of America, and American Bar Association. He was also part of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, American Association for Justice, Public Justice Foundation, and Federal Bar Association. He volunteered to support both his professional and personal communities.
