Volunteers Needed for the Oliver Hill/Samuel Tucker Pre-Law Institute
BY: Mikaela Phillips
We are gearing up for the 2026 Oliver Hill/Samuel Tucker Pre-Law Institute. The Institute is a week-long program held in the summer that reaches high school students who have legal aspirations and provides them with exposure and opportunity to explore the legal profession, all at no cost to the participants. This year, the Institute will be held from July 5, 2026, to July 10, 2026, at the University of Richmond. We are reaching out to you to ensure the success of this year’s program and are asking for your assistance in two capacities.
The first need is for the Lesson in Networking event on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at 6:30 pm. This networking social is designed to introduce the students to the art of networking, which is an essential part of the legal profession. To that end, I am looking for professionals (from various professions) to attend the event and network with the students. Food and drinks will be served to simulate a real networking event. This event will take place in the University of Richmond Jepson Alumni Center.
The second need is for the Mock Trial Competition on Friday, July 10, 2026. The mock trial competition is one main component of the Institute for which the students spend the whole week preparing. There are five rounds of the competition, and we need six witnesses and one judge for each of the rounds. Our preference is that the judges will be lawyers, but witnesses do not have to be lawyers. Volunteers will be given the case in advance to have plenty of time to review their role. Trial times are as follows:
- 8:30 am–10 am
- 9:45 am–11:15 am
- 11 am–12:30 pm
- 1:30 pm–3 pm
- 2:45 pm–4:15 pm
If you or someone you know is interested in volunteering, please sign up below. If you have any questions, please contact [email protected].
We appreciate all of our past volunteers and are excited to welcome new volunteers, too. Thank you for considering this request. We look forward to your help in making this year’s program a success!
