Volunteers Sought for VSB Board and Committee Vacancies

Virginia lawyers — active and in good standing — as well as non-lawyer volunteers are needed to serve on Virginia State Bar boards and committees beginning next year. 

The chosen applicants will oversee the Clients’ Protection Fund and the Bar’s judicial candidate evaluations, interviewing candidates for vacancies on the bench. The Bar also seeks Bar Council members interested in serving on the Executive Committee. 

The Nominating Committee will refer applicants to the full Bar Council for consideration at its February meeting. Appointments are made by Council.

All appointments begin on July 1, 2022. Vacancies include:

Executive Committee of Bar Council:

  • 6 vacancies (2 current members are not eligible for reappointment; 4 current members are eligible for reappointment)

  • Filled from ranks of the Bar Council

  • 1-year terms with potential reappointment

Clients’ Protection Fund Board:

  • 7 lawyer vacancies and 1 lay member vacancy (2 current members are not eligible for reappointment; 1 at-large member who is not eligible for reappointment; 3 current members who are eligible for reappointment, 1 current member who is unable to serve a second term and 1 lay member who is not eligible for reappointment)

  • Members may serve 2 consecutive 3-year terms

Judicial Candidate Evaluation Committee:

  • 2 lawyer vacancies (2 current members from the 1st and 5th disciplinary districts are not eligible for reappointment).

  • Members may serve 1 full 3-year term (no reappointment). Learn more about other Bar Service Opportunities.
