The Section Member of the Year Award

The Section Member of the Year is a new initiative created by the Corporate Counsel Section in 2025. A recipient will be nominated by his or her peers and selected on the basis of contributions to the section. We seek strong section members who improve the practice of law in Virginia through education, networking, mentoring, and other engagement. Awardees will be recognized at the Virginia State Bar annual meeting (with free or reimbursed registration fees). The award recipient will also be announced/showcased on the VSB website and in eblasts to section members. If you have questions about this opportunity, please contact the section’s liaison at [email protected].

How to Apply

Nominees must be a member of the Corporate Counsel Section.

Each nomination must have a statement of qualifications delivered by email to [email protected] by May 31 of each year. Self-nomination is permitted.

Nominations may be made by any member (including board of governors) of the Corporate Counsel Section. Nominations from the section's general membership will be sought and considered, provided that any such nomination must be received as outlined above in a timely manner. A nomination will be accepted only if accompanied by a statement of qualifications of the nominee.

Example activities deserving nomination may include speaking at CLE seminars; encouraging attorneys to be involved in the Section or serving on a committee; writing for the Corporate Counsel Newsletter; engaging in networking, mentoring, and career development initiatives for in-house counsel; working to enhance the practice of law in Virginia; any other relevant means of promoting engagement with corporate counsel in Virginia.
