Message from the 2026–27 Antitrust and Consumer Protection Section Chair | Spencer Cox
I am honored and excited to introduce myself as your incoming Section Chair. It is a privilege to serve a group of attorneys who are so deeply passionate about antitrust and consumer protection law, and I look forward to working with all of you in the year ahead.
Before looking forward, I want to take a moment to express my sincere thanks and recognition to our outgoing Chair, Brian Scarpelli, for his outstanding leadership. Under Brian’s leadership, our Section was one of the most active in the entire Virginia State Bar. During that time, the Section accomplished an impressive amount, including hosting the Virginia Attorney General and speakers from the Federal Trade Commission, organizing a full-day conference on data centers, presenting webinars on algorithmic pricing and healthcare competition, and hosting our first Section networking reception, which brought members together in a collegial and meaningful way. Brian set a very high bar.
My hope for the coming year is to continue that momentum and build a Section that is active and engaging, focused on relevant and timely topics in antitrust and consumer protection, and fosters a community that brings together attorneys across the Commonwealth who are passionate about this area of law and eager to connect with like-minded colleagues. Whether you practice at a firm, in-house, or in government, there are, in fact, others who do what you do in Virginia and there is a place for you here.
I also want to hear from you. This section is at its best when our programming reflects the interests and needs of our members. If you have an idea for an event, a topic you’d like to see addressed, or a speaker you’d like us to host, please do not hesitate to reach out. I am genuinely committed to turning your ideas into meaningful programming.
Finally, I encourage you to get involved—whether by attending a program, sharing ideas, or inviting a colleague to join the Section. The more voices and perspectives we have at the table, the stronger our community becomes. I look forward to seeing what we accomplish together this year.
I am looking forward to a wonderful year together. Let’s get to work!
